Everybody knows the song about New York, the city that never sleeps, and this vibrant place invites you to do the same. New York´s nightlife is alive with parties and events. Also, the fusion of cultures and countries of origin of its inhabitants means there are many diverse festivals. In Chinatown for example, at the end of January each year, the Chinese New Year is welcomed in with processions of dragons and great celebrations. The Irish community, which is so numerous that it is said there are more Irish people in New York and Boston than in Ireland, celebrate St Patrick´s Day on March 17th. During the same month, the Greek community celebrate their Sirtaki festival.
The Italian community also have some important festivals, such as Saint Anthony of Padua Day, during May. Other big local festivals are the Carnival in September, and Gay Pride in June.
Visit New York at any time of the year and you will find New Yorkers celebrating one important festival or another, which you can join in with and enjoy during your holiday in the city that never sleeps. |
